What is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?

Management of pests using non-toxic methods to a safe level that prevents damage from pests, and retains aesthetic quality.

Is pest management performed on a specific schedule?

Pest management is performed on a specific schedule only for weeds. We use a natural pre-emergent weed control fertilizer in teh early spring and early fall. If a customer chooses to have us perform a preventive grub treatment, we will perform this service using a natural biological control in the June time-frace. All other pests are managed on an as-needed basis.

How are pest problems identified?

We perform an initial lawn assessment, where pest problems are identified.

What practices do you use to prevent and/or control pests?

  • Preventive weed control using a corn gluten meal product in early spring and early fall, and thickening up the lawn by overseeding.
  • Corrective weed control using hand tools, horticultural vinegar, and heat.
  • Grub control using a natural biological product.
  • Turf disease control using a safe natural fungicid.
  • Crawling insect control using a diatomaceous earth with natural pyrethrin product.
  • Mole control using safe natural mole repellent, or sub-contracting with a mole removal service.

Do you use biological controls?

Yes- nematodes for grubs.

Do you use borates?

No.

Do you use synthetic chemicals?

We do not use any synthetic pesticides.

What are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend?

We do not recommend using any synthetic pesticides at all. They are unsafe and unnecessary. We do recommend the following type products: corn gluten meal, parasitic nematodes, milky spore, mole repellents with castor oil as the active ingredient, and vinegar.

If pesticides are used, how much are used per year of each?

We do not use synthetic pesticides.

Does your company perform habitat modification?

Yes, thicken up lawns through overseeding to aid in weed prevention. We also strongly encourage our customers to adopt mowing and watering stragies that ward off weed infestations.

Do you use any physical or mechanical controls?

Yes. We provide manual weeidng service, overseeding, and power raking.

What type of fertilizers do you use/sell/recommend?

We use our own proprietary natural organic liquid and granular fertilizers made from food-grade ingredients.
