The decision came from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), a government body with the \u00a0power to block deals \u00a0it deems a threat to the nation\u2019s security. Environmental groups opposed to the merger were waiting on this decision with baited breath, urging \u00a0CFIUS to \u00a0oppose the deal, given it has \u00a0previously proven to be an obstacle for cross-border agreements involving Chinese companies.
