The lowest level (.659 ppb) was from a biodynamic and organic vineyard, a 2013 Syrah. According to the owner, the vineyard has never been sprayed, indicating the possibility of pesticide drift from conventional agriculture, which has been <a href=\"http:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2016\/03\/colorado-rancher-to-be-jailed-for-pesticide-drift\/\">a real and persistent problem<\/a> for organic growers. EPA has done little to protect organic growers, who often bear the burden, both economic and otherwise, of pesticides applied to nearby conventional farmlands and vineyards.<\/p>\n<p>The report also points out that \u201cthe detection of glyphosate is an indicator of the presence of many other co-formulants in glyphosate-based herbicides, which have recently been shown\u201d\u00a6to be endocrine hormone disruptors and to be 1000x more toxic than glyphosate alone. Therefore, the type or amount of the co-formulant chemicals in the wines are untested and the consequences on our health are unknown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recent reports of the widespread presence of glyphosate residues find the chemical in <a href=\"http:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2014\/05\/moms-tell-epa-to-ban-glyphosate-after-residues-found-in-breast-milk\/\">breast milk<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2016\/03\/study-finds-majority-of-germans-have-glyphosate-in-their-bodies\/\">in nearly 100% of Germans<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2016\/02\/glyphosate-residues-in-popular-german-beers\/\">in German beers<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2016\/02\/feminine-hygiene-products-tainted-with-glyphosate-other-toxic-chemicals\/\">feminine hygiene products<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2015\/07\/carcinogenic-glyphosate-linked-to-dna-damage-as-residues-are-found-in-bread\/\">bread<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Following the \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2015\/03\/glyphosate-classified-carcinogenic-by-international-cancer-agency-group-calls-on-u-s-to-end-herbicides-use-and-advance-alternatives\/\">carcinogenic classification by International Agency for Research on Cancern (IARC<\/a>), \u00a0a \u00a0research study \u00a0published in \u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/ehjournal.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s12940-015-0056-1\">Environmental Health \u00a0<\/a><\/em>links long-term, ultra-low dose exposure to glyphosate in drinking water to adverse impacts on the health of liver and kidneys. The study focuses on GHBs, rather than pure glyphosate, unlike many of the studies that preceded it. In addition to impacts on human health, glyphosate has been linked to adverse effects on \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2015\/08\/roundup-damages-earthworms-and-soil-biota-contributes-to-nutrient-pollution\/\">earthworms and other soil biota<\/a>, as well as \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2012\/04\/roundup-linked-to-animal-shape-changes\/\">shape changes in amphibians<\/a>. The widespread use of the chemical on genetically engineered (GE) crops has led it to be implicated in the \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2015\/06\/epa-solicits-public-input-on-protecting-monarchs-from-herbicide-impacts\/\">decline of monarch butterflies<\/a>, whose sole habitat \u00a0to lay their eggs, milkweed plants, are being devastated as a result of incessant use of glyphosate.<\/p>\n<p>These findings underscore the importance of organic agriculture.
