Presentations by Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) founder Baldemar Velasquez, <em>Poisoned Profits: The Toxic Assault on Our Children<\/em> authors Philip and Alice Shabecoff, mushroom expert Paul Stamets, author and radio commentator Jim Hightower, United Farm Workers president Arturo Rodriguez and others are posted on the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/forum\/video\/index.htm\">Videos for Change<\/a> webpage.<\/p>\n<p>While Beyond Pesticides encourages community leaders, scientists, policy makers and activists to attend its annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/forum\">National Pesticide Forum<\/a> to get together, share information, and elevate the pesticide reform movement, the new online videos of much of the Forum&#8217;s educational sessions make a similar contribution. By joining us on these social networking websites, you\u2019ll get the latest news on pesticide science and regulation, action alerts on breaking issues, as well as videos, podcasts and other links that we think will interest you sent directly to your computer or mobile phone. <\/p>\n<p>Facebook was launched in 2004 and made available to the general public in 2006. Its mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. People create accounts to keep up and connect with friends and issues they care about. Twitter, launched in 2006, is a free social networking and \u201cmicro-blogging\u201d service that enables its users to send and read other users&#8217; updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters, displayed on the user&#8217;s profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them. Beyond Pesticides believes that people must have a voice in decisions that affect them directly. We believe decisions should not be made for us by chemical companies or by decision-makers who either do not have all of the facts or refuse to consider them. Beyond Pesticides provides hands-on services to the public and supports local action by: identifying and interpreting hazards; and, designing safe pest management programs. With the information provided by Beyond Pesticides, people may not only be able to make informed choices and adopt practices that protect themselves and their families from unnecessary exposure to pesticides, but they will be able to effect changes on community-wide pest management decisions and policies that govern pesticide use, such as pesticide uses in parks, schools, for community insect control and along roadsides.
