In the meantime, we hope you will tell us your wishes and vision for change in the New Year as we seek to protect our health and the environment. If you have already donated to Beyond Pesticides\u2019 program, we thank you deeply because you make it possible for us to continue our important work!<\/span><\/p>\n

While you are writing your wish list and resolutions for 2010, consider Beyond Pesticides\u2019 vision for the New Year:<\/p>\n

1. Public recognition that it is a human right not to be poisoned by pesticides.
\n2. Engage residential, medical, public health and health-impacted communities in obtaining a pesticide-free environment and lead the pesticide reform movement.
\n3. Encourage individuals, institutions, corporations and local governments to routinely use least-toxic pest control methods.
\n4. Promote better understanding of the connection between chronic health issues, such as cancer, and pesticide exposure by the general public and health care community.
\n5. Help governments at all levels enact new laws and regulations prohibiting the use of toxic pesticides.
\n6. Continue to engage with government agencies to make sure that their promise of scientific integrity and transparency is upheld.
\n7. Ensure that there is an improved legal recognition of cradle-to-grave impacts of toxic chemicals (from production to use) and responsibility and accountability.
\n8. Organic integrity is expanded and strengthened.<\/p>\n

The founders, who established Beyond Pesticides (originally as National Coalition Against the Misuse of Pesticides) as a nonprofit membership organization in 1981, felt that without the existence of such an organized, national network, local, state and national pesticide policy would become, under chemical industry pressure, increasingly unresponsive to public health and environmental concerns. Beyond Pesticides believes that people must have a voice in decisions that affect them directly. We believe decisions should not be made for us by chemical companies or by decision-makers who either do not have all of the facts or refuse to consider them. Beyond Pesticides seeks to protect healthy air, water, land, and food for ourselves and future generations. By forging ties with governments, nonprofits, and people who rely on these natural resources, we reduce the need for unnecessary pesticide use and protect public health and the environment. Beyond Pesticides provides hands-on services to the public and supports local action by: identifying and interpreting hazards; and, designing safe pest management programs. With the information provided by Beyond Pesticides, people may not only be able to make informed choices and adopt practices that protect themselves and their families from unnecessary exposure to pesticides, but they will be able to effect changes on community-wide pest management decisions and policies that govern pesticide use, such as pesticide uses in parks, schools, for community insect control and along roadsides.
