The authors, a team of scientists and academics from Brazil, shed light on the link between EDC use and thyroid dysfunction, leading to increasingly prevalent illnesses and deadly diseases. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>EDCs are any synthetic or natural compounds that hinder endocrine system functions and create harmful effects on organisms. These chemicals can impact the thyroid gland, which is vital in producing hormones and plays a role in several body functions. As the researchers state, \u201cSeveral <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/assets\/media\/documents\/health\/endocrine.pdf\">EDCs<\/a> have been classified as thyroid disruptors, impairing thyroid hormone [TH] production, synthesis, metabolism, transport, and\/or actions. Notably, <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/diseasehealth-effects\/thyroid-disease\/\">thyroid disorders<\/a> are the second most prevalent endocrine disease worldwide, with incidence increasing significantly in recent years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The authors continue, \u201c[S]tudies have correlated this rise in thyroid dysfunctions and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-induced-diseases-database\/cancer#:~:text=8370)%3A207%2D210.%5D-,Thyroid%20Cancer,-Endosulfan%20use%20and\">cancers<\/a> with increased exposure to EDCs. Although many EDCs are linked to thyroid dysfunction, this review focuses on the deleterious effects of plasticizers, organochlorine pesticides, and per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances on thyroid function. These contaminants are commonly found in <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2023\/03\/pfas-leaches-into-ketchup-mayo-other-common-foods-elevating-health-hazards\/\">food<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/threatened-waters\/overview\">water<\/a>, and everyday products.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This review helps to summarizes the consequences of exposure to thyroid disruptors for human health, which can impact hormones such as diiodothyronine (T2), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). These hormones are necessary for growth and metabolism, as well as fetal development and maturation, and play a key role in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s42255-024-00986-0\">central nervous system<\/a> (CNS). Several tissues in the body rely on these hormones, which highlights the importance of limiting exposure to the more than 100 natural and synthetic compounds that have been classified as thyroid disruptors. (See studies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/endocrinology\/articles\/10.3389\/fendo.2024.1429884\/full\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/endocrinology\/articles\/10.3389\/fendo.2022.995503\/full\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><u>Impact on Infants\/Children<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Higher hazards of toxic chemical exposure are associated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/programs\/children-and-schools\/hazards-of-pesticides\">infants and children<\/a>, as their small size and developing organ systems make them more susceptible when exposed to toxic chemicals. EDCs put young children at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/disproportionate-risks\/overview\">disproportionate risk<\/a>, \u201cprimarily because the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/1422-0067\/24\/3\/2671\">metabolizing pathways<\/a> of these substances are immature in these individuals,\u201d the researchers point out. \u201cMoreover, embryos, fetuses, and newborns are adversely impacted by <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/womens-health\/\">maternal exposure<\/a> to these contaminants, which are transferred through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/1422-0067\/24\/19\/15018\">placenta<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2023\/02\/pesticides-in-breast-milk-linked-to-over-100-newborn-deaths-in-less-than-a-year\/\">maternal milk<\/a>. Consequently, these individuals become more vulnerable to hormonal, immunological, and neurological alterations during <a href=\"https:\/\/jag.journalagent.com\/jcrpe\/pdfs\/JCRPE_4_2_51_60.pdf\">critical stages of their development<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additional studies indicate that maternal exposure to EDCs, both <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2024\/08\/study-links-pesticide-exposure-during-preconception-and-first-trimester-to-stillbirth\/\">preconception<\/a> and during <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2023\/07\/another-study-adds-to-science-indicating-mothers-exposure-to-pesticides-during-pregnancy-increases-adverse-birth-outcomes\/\">pregnancy<\/a>, can impact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-induced-diseases-database\/birth-defects\">fetal development<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2024\/10\/literature-review-finds-elevated-spontaneous-abortions-linked-to-maternal-pesticide-exposure\/\">birth outcomes<\/a>, and long-term health. Some studies (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0160412024003490\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/public-health\/articles\/10.3389\/fpubh.2024.1351786\/full\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.2217\/epi-2021-0339\">here<\/a>) show that contact with EDCs \u201ctriggers epigenetic modifications in the placenta and the fetus, altering gene expression and compromising fetal development,\u201d the authors note. These changes can lead to subsequent health problems in the offspring and cause <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S001393512101358X\">multigenerational and transgenerational effects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Maternal THs are critical for fetal development, as the fetus receives them through the placenta exclusively up until the 12<sup>th<\/sup>-16<sup>th<\/sup> week of gestation. Any alterations in the mother\u2019s hormone levels directly impact the fetus during this time. The transport of THs across the placenta aids in not only development but also in the function of placental tissues. Studies have linked complications during pregnancy involving the placenta to untreated thyroid disorders, highlighting the role of TH production in birth outcomes. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/endocrinology\/articles\/10.3389\/fendo.2023.1309787\/full\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liebertpub.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1089\/thy.2005.15.60\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><u>Plasticizers<\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2024\/01\/researchers-raise-alarm-about-ingested-nanoscale-microplastic-particles-not-previously-evaluated\/\">Plasticizers<\/a>, compounds utilized in the production of plastic products including <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/chemicals\/inerts\/phthalates\/\">phthalates<\/a> and bisphenols, are frequently used due to their high stability. These can be found in \u201cvarious commercial products such as toys, construction materials, personal care products, cosmetics, food preservation films, detergents, and medical devices,\u201d the authors share. Exposure to phthalates, whether through ingestion, inhalation, or dermal routes, can lead to detectable levels \u201cin urine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0048969722008841\">blood<\/a>, hair, amniotic fluid, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0304389423021799\">breast milk<\/a>, confirming widespread human contamination of phthalates and their metabolites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Studies have not only detected these plasticizers in human samples, but have demonstrated an association between exposure, such as with di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and alterations in T3, T4, and TSH concentrations in pregnant women, newborns, and children. (See studies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2214750020301906\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0048969719356463\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0160412024000199\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S004565351630652X\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0269749123000532\">here<\/a>). Impacts within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liebertpub.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1089\/thy.2018.0051\">general populations<\/a> have also been noted, as well as later-in-life impacts after <a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1021\/acs.est.3c09756\">neonatal exposure<\/a> to phthalates.<\/p>\n<p>Bisphenol A (BPA), used in products like polycarbonate plastics and food can linings, has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00216-024-05386-7\">found in urine<\/a> and other samples from adults and newborns and is linked to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0160412020321152\">impacts on thyroid function<\/a> and hormone levels. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1001074222000080\">Another study<\/a> finds that elevated levels of bisphenols in urine correlate with increased levels of <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/diseasehealth-effects\/oxidative-stress\/\">oxidative stress<\/a> biomarkers and an enhanced risk of <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2022\/08\/as-thyroid-cancer-cases-rise-study-finds-pesticides-link\/\">thyroid cancer<\/a>. The authors summarize these results in saying, \u201c[T]he data strongly indicate that BPA and its analogs are significant disruptors of thyroid function, with far-reaching implications for both human and other animals\u2019 health. BPA\u2019s ability to bind to TH receptors and thyroid transcription factors highlights its potent role in altering thyroid signaling pathways and gene expression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><u>Pesticides<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Numerous pesticides are considered EDCs. Substances <a href=\"https:\/\/edlists.org\/the-ed-lists\/list-i-substances-identified-as-endocrine-disruptors-by-the-eu\">identified by the European Union<\/a> (EU) include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-gateway?pesticideid=79\">triclosan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-gateway?pesticideid=7\">atrazine<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-gateway?pesticideid=206\">mancozeb<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-gateway?pesticideid=253\">propiconazole<\/a>, among others. Many EDCs have not been specifically tested for impacts on thyroid function, highlighting data gaps that warrant further research. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.endocrine.org\/topics\/edc\/what-edcs-are\/common-edcs\">Endocrine Society<\/a> further emphasizes, \u201cThere are nearly 85,000 man-made chemicals in the world, many of which people come into contact with every day. Only about one percent of them have been studied for safety; however, 1,000 or more of these chemicals may be EDCs based on their probable endocrine-interfering properties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A literature review in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/endocrinology\/articles\/10.3389\/fendo.2019.00743\/full\">Frontiers in Endocrinology<\/a><\/em> agrees in sharing from their research: \u201cWe conclude first, that many pesticides were placed on the market with insufficient testing, other than acute or chronic toxicity, and second, that thyroid-specific endpoints for neurodevelopmental effects and mixture assessment are largely absent from regulatory directives.\u201d These authors also analyzes classes of pesticides such as <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/chemicals\/organochlorines\/\">organochlorine pesticides<\/a> (OCPs), <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/chemicals\/organophosphate\/\">organophosphates<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/chemicals\/carbamate\/\">carbamates<\/a>, phenylpyrazoles, and <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/synthetic-pyrethroids\/\">pyrethroids<\/a> for thyroid disruption. The research shows potential effects for many pesticides within these classes including dichlorodiphenylotrichloroethane (<a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/chemicals\/ddt\/\">DDT<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-gateway?pesticideid=17\">chlorpyrifos<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-gateway?pesticideid=295\">thiram<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-gateway?pesticideid=34\">fipronil<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-gateway?pesticideid=61\">permethrin<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The original literature review, in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2673-396X\/5\/3\/32\">Endocrines<\/a><\/em>, also notes how OCPs (specifically DDT, <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/chemicals\/endosulfan\/\">endosulfan<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/chemicals\/dieldrin\/\">dieldrin<\/a>) are known for their persistence in the environment. DDT, for example, was widely used during World War II until it was banned in developed countries in the 1970s, but it is still <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2024\/05\/ddt-persistent-in-environment-50-years-after-ban-found-in-deep-ocean-sediment-and-biota\/\">detected in the environment<\/a> and is used in several developing countries to this day. Both DDT and its main metabolite dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE) accumulate in the fatty tissue of humans and other animals after exposure, mainly through contaminated <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10661-024-12720-0\">food<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/heliyon\/fulltext\/S2405-8440(24)04085-4\">water<\/a>. As the researchers share, \u201cDDT and DDE have a similar chemical structure to THs. For this reason, they are described as potential disruptors of TH synthesis, action, and metabolism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Studies find that DDT and its metabolites <a href=\"https:\/\/hh-ra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/OLeary-Transplacental-passage-of-pesticides.pdf\">cross the placenta<\/a> and are also detected in samples of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scielosp.org\/article\/rsp\/2024.v58\/19\/en\/\">breast milk<\/a>. Reports show sexually dimorphic impacts from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0160412019305598\">maternal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-024-58176-7\">paternal exposure<\/a> to DDT with impacts on placental genes, growth and function, and metabolic parameters in offspring. \u201c[T]he evidence shows that OCPs, particularly DDT and its metabolite DDE, disrupt thyroid function in both humans and other animals,\u201d the authors affirm.<\/p>\n<p><u>Per- and Poly-Fluoroalkyl Substance (PFAS)<\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/category\/chemicals\/pfas\/\">PFASs<\/a> are a class of human-made chemicals of <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2024\/07\/science-on-forever-chemicals-pfas-as-pesticide-ingredients-and-contaminants-supports-need-for-immediate-action-to-end-their-use\/\">increasing concern<\/a> that are also highly persistent and chemically stable. \u201c[M]ixtures of PFASs are commonly found in drinking water, and serum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2305-6304\/10\/2\/44\">PFASs<\/a> are detected in up to 99% of the population,\u201d the researchers report. Exposure to PFAS is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0013935121018624\">negatively associated<\/a> with TSH and free T4 levels, causing implications for early neurodevelopment. Prenatal exposure to PFASs is also negatively associated with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0160412024003064\">IQ of school-aged children<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Studies have detected higher levels of PFAS in infants with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0013935116300780\">congenital hypothyroidism<\/a>, which offers a link between PFAS exposure and thyroid function. Additional research highlights the potential for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/17446651.2024.2351885#abstract\">multi-transgenerational effects<\/a> with PFAS as thyroid disruptors as well. \u201cConcerning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-induced-diseases-database\/cancer#:~:text=8370)%3A207%2D210.%5D-,Thyroid%20Cancer,-Endosulfan%20use%20and\">thyroid cancer<\/a>, PFAS exposure has been previously associated with an increased risk of papillary thyroid tumor development in humans,\u201d say the authors. They continue, \u201cThe carcinogenesis associated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/toxicology\/articles\/10.3389\/ftox.2023.1244457\/full\">PFAS exposure<\/a> has been related to changes in epigenetic mechanisms, immunosuppression, increased oxidative stress\/inflammation, [and] alterations in hormonal\/metabolic pathways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><u>Summary of Health Implications<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Through the review of a multitude of studies, the researchers find that EDCs alter thyroid function and hormone levels through several pathways. These changes impact cellular physiology and gene expression, which then leads to additional health implications. \u201cExposure to phthalates, bisphenols, DDT, and PFASs has been linked to disruptions in the function of the hypothalamus\u2013pituitary\u2013thyroid axis, as well as in the cellular physiology and gene expression of thyrocytes,\u201d the authors summarize. Thyrocytes are the primary cells in the thyroid gland that produce and secrete thyroid hormones. \u201cResearch indicates that these EDCs impair the activity and expression of proteins critical for thyroid hormone synthesis. Additionally, findings suggest that these EDCs possibly alter signaling pathways and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate gene expression in thyrocytes,\u201d they conclude.<\/p>\n<p>The studies analyzed showcase the associations between thyroid dysfunction and various conditions such as with cardiovascular, metabolic, <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2023\/07\/deadly-pesticide-poses-an-increased-risk-of-hormone-associated-reproductive-cancers-in-women\/\">reproductive<\/a>, neurological, behavioral, and fetal development disorders. With these findings, and the importance of TH throughout the entire body, the authors call attention to the chemicals that impair thyroid function and can have deleterious effects throughout generations.<\/p>\n<p><u>History of EDC and Thyroid Function<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The literature review in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2673-396X\/5\/3\/32\"><em>Endocrines<\/em><\/a> is the latest addition to the scientific critiques showing the adverse effects from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/assets\/media\/documents\/journal\/bp-40.1-sp20-Book%20Review.%20Sicker%20Fatter%20Poorer.pdf\">EDCs<\/a>. Previous <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1155\/2012\/713696\">epidemiological studies<\/a> find an increase in the incidence and prevalence of diseases associated with exposure to EDC. These include higher rates of breast, thyroid, prostate, and testicular <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2023\/05\/new-viewpoint-of-the-historic-link-between-endocrine-disrupting-chemicals-and-cancer-discussed\/\">cancers<\/a>, diabetes, obesity, and decreased fertility over the past 50+ years. These effects occur when compounds, such as those in EDCs, bind to hormone receptors, trigger disruption in key pathways, and disrupt hormone synthesis.<\/p>\n<p>Global concerns for EDC have been noted, with the European Commission restricting known endocrine disruptors in 2023 as <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2023\/05\/europe-moves-to-disclose-and-restrict-endocrine-disruptors-while-u-s-rejects-action\/\">previously covered<\/a> by Beyond Pesticides. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), however, has been under scrutiny for incomplete testing protocols for endocrine-disrupting pesticides. As <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2024\/02\/epas-proposed-endocrine-disrupting-pesticide-review-called-deficient\/\">reported earlier this year<\/a>, EPA\u2019s review of these chemicals ignores a range of chronic adverse health effects even at extremely <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2021\/09\/more-scientific-evidence-that-endocrine-disrupting-pesticides-disrupt-thyroid-function\/\">low exposure levels<\/a>. This is due to EDCs ability to: (1) mimic actions of hormones the body produces (e.g., estrogen or testosterone), causing reactions similar to those generated by the naturally produced hormones; (2) block hormone receptor cells, thereby preventing the actions of natural hormones; and\/or (3) affect the synthesis, transport, metabolism, and\/or excretion of hormones, thus altering the concentrations of natural hormones in tissues or at receptor sites. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Beyond Pesticides also <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2021\/05\/exposure-to-certain-pesticides-increase-the-risk-of-thyroid-cancer\/\">reported<\/a>, \u201cSpecific to thyroid function, pesticides can inhibit iodine uptake, binding to hormone receptors and transport proteins, and interfere with gene expression. However, impacts on the thyroid are not the only result of endocrine disruption. The entire endocrine system directly affects traditional endocrine glands and their hormones and receptors (i.e., estrogens, anti-androgens, thyroid hormones). Furthermore, endocrine disruption can negatively impact reproductive function, <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondpesticides.org\/dailynewsblog\/2021\/09\/endocrine-hormone-disrupting-chemicals-including-pesticides-also-effect-the-nervous-system\/\">nervous system function<\/a>, metabolic\/immune function, and fetal\/body development&#8230; Considering endocrine disruption has such close ties with hormone-related cancers like thyroid cancer, it is essential to avoid toxic chemical exposure to lessen potential cancer risks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><u>Organic as the Solution<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Beyond Pesticides\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/about\/our-mission\">mission<\/a> is to provide healthy air, water, land, and food for current and future generations by eliminating all petrochemical pesticides, including EDCs, and synthetic fertilizers by 2032. The authors, a team of scientists and academics from Brazil, shed light on the link between EDC use and thyroid dysfunction, leading to increasingly prevalent illnesses and deadly diseases. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 EDCs are any synthetic or natural compounds that hinder endocrine system functions and create harmful effects on organisms. These chemicals can impact the thyroid gland, which is vital in producing hormones and plays a role in several body functions. As the researchers state, \u201cSeveral EDCs have been classified as thyroid disruptors, impairing thyroid hormone [TH] production, synthesis, metabolism, transport, and\/or actions. With the information provided by Beyond Pesticides, people may not only be able to make informed choices and adopt practices that protect themselves and their families from unnecessary exposure to pesticides, but they will be able to effect changes on community-wide pest management decisions and policies that govern pesticide use, such as pesticide uses in parks, schools, for community insect control and along roadsides.
