Who will serve as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the agency responsible for regulating pesticides under the <em>Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act<\/em> (FIFRA), as well as enforcing the <em>Clean Air Act<\/em>, <em>Clean Water Act<\/em> and other environmental laws? Who will serve as Secretary of Agriculture, heading the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Department which regulates organic food and textile production? Before the presidential votes have been tallied, many experts have already made their predictions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Obama EPA<\/strong><br \/>\nWith climate change a top priority, an Obama Administration EPA Administrator would most likely have a background in carbon emissions and global warming. Organic advocates will be pushing to include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/organicfood\/environment\/index.htm#carbon\">organic agriculture and carbon sequestration<\/a> in any new cap and trade emissions program. The online environmental magazine <em>Daily Grist<\/em> predicts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arb.ca.gov\/board\/bio\/chair.htm\">Mary Nichols<\/a>, a former Natural Resources Defense Council lawyer and senior official in the Clinton EPA who currently chairs the California Air Resources Board; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.depweb.state.pa.us\/dep\/cwp\/view.asp?a=3&#038;q=461275\">Kathleen McGinty<\/a>, former Al Gore aide and first chair of the Clinton Administration\u2019s Center for Environmental Quality who currently serves as secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP); and, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.yale.edu\/faculty\/estybio.htm\">Dan Esty<\/a>, a current top energy advisor to the Obama campaign and former George H.W. We believe decisions should not be made for us by chemical companies or by decision-makers who either do not have all of the facts or refuse to consider them. Beyond Pesticides provides hands-on services to the public and supports local action by: identifying and interpreting hazards; and, designing safe pest management programs. With the information provided by Beyond Pesticides, people may not only be able to make informed choices and adopt practices that protect themselves and their families from unnecessary exposure to pesticides, but they will be able to effect changes on community-wide pest management decisions and policies that govern pesticide use, such as pesticide uses in parks, schools, for community insect control and along roadsides.
