Definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a holistic approach to pest management. It treats the causes of pest infestations by correcting persistent conditions conducive to pest activity (access to food, water, and shelter). Chemical control measures are used as a last resort. By correcting building deficiencies that provide breeding grounds for pests, you will be better equipped to deal with pest infestations if and when they occur.
IPM focuses on pest prevention and pest management over the long term, avoiding quick-fix solutions to pest infestations that do not provide lasting results.
We believe that the answer to pest problems is of discovery and rediscovery; discovering the most common sense and practical solutions to pest problems through new scientific research and by re-discovering the cultural wisdom developed over the millennia that humankind has lived with pests.
Pestec has adopted the precautionary principle as the central tenet of our mission. The Precautionary Principle is a “caution in advance” approach to decision-making that seeks to prevent adverse effects on human health and the environment by avoiding practices that can potentially cause harm. New information is compiled every day indicating that not enough has been done to avert the dangers of pesticide chemical exposure associated with the pest control industry and the recombination of pesticides in the environment.
How Pest Problems Are Identified
Effective Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs prevent pest problems instead of routinely treating them with pesticides and avoiding the cause of the problem. To prevent pest problems effectively, the sources of pest activity must be identified, i.e. food, water, heat, harborage, and access. Once these sources have been identified steps must be taken to reduce as many of these sources as possible and prevent their return.

Evaluation
How Effectiveness of Pest Management Systems is Evaluated
Pestec's quality assurance program consists of a series of redundant inspection, monitoring and reporting practices. This allows supervisors who oversee the pest management practices employed by our technicians in the field to observe the effectiveness of the pest management approaoch at each site.
